Swindon Lib Dems support call for a referendum on ‘Super Parishes’

The Council is consulting on a plan to possibly create several 'super parishes' to cover areas of Swindon that do not currently have parish councils. We feel that such a major change should be decided directly by the people of Swindon.

While Liberal Democrats always feel that power should be devolved as close to those effected by that power as possible, we feel that the current proposals will only increase Council Tax whilst not improving local services. This is not something we could agree to.

Instead, we are supporting calls for a referendum on the issue so then the people of Swindon can decide on if they agree with the idea of more parish councils or not.

You can sign the petition here and have your say in the future of Swindon.
