As a retired senior RAF officer, I am no stranger to difficult decisions and operating imaginatively within tight budgets to achieve maximum effect. I have lived in Central Ward for over a decade and am dismayed at the lack of progress by the ruling Council and its main opposition during that time.
Swindon deserves better and it is time to move on from tired politics and failed rhetoric. Since semi-retiring, I have furthered my interest in education as the great leveller in society. Over the past decade I have been an exam invigilator at New College for students with access arrangements, as well as a governor in Wroughton for several years where I focussed on the Liberal Democrat inspired ’Pupil Premium’ policy and helping disadvantaged students realise their potential. Ensuring today’s youth flourish is essential and Swindon should aim to be a leader, not a follower, in that field.
