Traffic Warden Car Cameras

Traffic wardens’ cars will be fitted with cameras that detect number car number plates and check them against a database of Residents’ Parking permit holders.

The Council is bugetting an extra £50,000 income from fines over the next year, as it expects to catch more than a thousand more non-permit holders.

Cllr Stan Pajak said, “As the number of traffic wardens was cut from 40 to 14 people have noticed they rarely see traffic wardens unless they ring the Council to complain about a particular car.  I would be really interested to hear residents views about this idea.”

Camera cars would drive around zones and apparently can cope with cars being parked close together. Traffic wardens will still have to get out of the car to physically check cars before a ticket is issued.
