In December 2015 the government announced in an open letter to the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee and other key pharmacy bodies that funding for community pharmacies in England will take a 6% cut from October 2016. The effects of such cuts would equate to a pharmacy losing the same amount of money it would cost to take on a fully qualified, full time dispenser – a cost which many smaller pharmacies would not be able to afford.
Stan Pajak, Eastcott Councillor and Council Group Leader for the Liberal Democrats in Swindon, has called on local MP Robert Buckland’s support in stopping the proposed cut to pharmacy funding in order to make sure these vital local services are not driven out of business. These community pharmacies provide useful and important information to local residents and help relieve pressure on already overstretched NHS services.
